Stealth is an important stat in Dandy's World. Stealth determines the detection distance for Twisteds and which players they'll prioritize.
Line of Sight[]
An important piece of information for understanding stealth mechanics in Dandy's World is understanding 'line of sight.' Line of sight refers to the places a Twisted will detect (see) you.
Most Twisteds' lines of sight consist of:
- a long line forward from the direction they're facing (similar to a human's gaze)
- a small 360 radius centered on their position
Twisted Pebble is a notable exception as his mechanic makes his detection range farther than other Twisteds.
A Twisted's line of sight will be interrupted by any set piece on the map (such as a wall or crate) even if it appears to have holes in it. Line of sight for Twisteds is not interrupted by Machines, however. Conversely, Twisteds cannot see inside of the elevator.
A player's Stealth value will determine how large the Twisted's range is for detecting them in their line of sight. Higher Stealth will result in a smaller detection range.
Entering any Twisted's line of sight for the first time per Floor (they must be awake in the case of Twisted Razzle and Dazzle and
Twisted Rodger) will award you 3 Tapes and 5% Research (10% if playing as
Rodger) on them.
Targeting Mechanics[]
Each Twisted has a specific attention span that determines the amount of time they will continue chasing a target they can (or can't) see. Every moment they've seen you will reset their attention span timer and keep their aggro (attention) on you. Until their attention span runs out, they will continue to know your location and beeline for it, so getting out of their line of sight and keeping out of it is important if you want to escape them.
Twisted Razzle & Dazzle and
Twisted Rodger are the only exceptions. They do not know your location if you're not in their line of sight (in their activated states) and will return to their peaceful state after enough time passes without spotting a player.
Twisted targeting mechanics rely on three factors:
- Target priority
- Distance
- Line of sight
Players in line of sight are always prioritized over Machines (which only become targets if a Skill Check is failed on them or, in Twisted Dandy's case, if they are completed) and
Air Horns/
Pebble's
Speak! ability (which, when used, will cause Twisteds to head for the spot they were used in, not towards the player). Those closer to the Twisted are prioritized over those far away, but those with lower stealth are always prioritized over Toons with higher Stealth as long as both are still in line of sight. This means that a Toon with 1★ Stealth that is farther away from the Twisted will be prioritized as a target over a Toon with 2★ Stealth that is close to or even touching the Twisted. However, if the 1★ Stealth player leaves the Twisted's line of sight (such as by turning a corner), the 2★ Stealth Toon will become the new target and the 1★ Stealth Toon will be forgotten until they reappear in the line of sight.
Twisted Razzle & Dazzle,
Twisted Sprout's tendrils, and
Twisted Rodger seem to be able to attack multiple targets at once, but more testing is required.
Players versus failed Skill Checks /Air Horns/
Speak! are treated differently. A player must be in line of sight to be detected, but the other targets' only criteria for being targeted is if a Twisted is nearby and not already in a chase. The other targets will cause a Twisted to run to the spot the signal was caused, but once the Twisted reaches the location they will instantly resume normal activities (except in the case of
Twisted Astro who will first steal completion from Machines). Exceptions include
Twisted Vee, who can detect failed Template:Skill checks and these non-player targets from anywhere on the map, including things such as Air Horns or
Pebble's
Speak! ability. Which the same thing applies to
Twisted Dandy;
Twisted Razzle and Dazzle, who will not detect anything outside of their stationary wire perimeter and will not detect players until woken; and
Twisted Rodger, who can only detect Toons from within a 360-degree radius and must be awake.
Twisted Connie and
Twisted Glisten have a normal line of sight but will not target players when in their passive states- those in their line of sight will instead be awarded the normal research, tapes, and will reduce
Twisted Glisten's loneliness meter over time. If the meter isn't attended to,
Twisted Glisten will enrage him, whilst
Twisted Connie has to be possessing a Machine to be able to attack Toons.
Do keep in mind that Air Horns/
Speak! reduce the user's Stealth by 50 in addition to calling nearby Twisteds to the location they were used in. Another thing to note is that
Shrimpo and
Brightney, while both having 1★ stealth, have different true stats due to
Shrimpo's ability.
Shrimpo's stealth is -99 while
Brightney's is 0. Also remember, each
of Stealth increases a Toon's stealth value by 5. Since the
Diary Trinket only increases Stealth by 25%, it will not bump a Toon's Stealth stat up to the next Stealth
and will only prevent Twisteds from targeting the user when Toons with the same original Stealth stat are present,
Diary does not add stealth to
Brightney's Stealth stat.
