Sprout is one of the 21 playable Toons in Dandy's World, added on August 14th, 2024, alongside Cosmo, Finn and Glisten. He is one of the 5 playable Main Characters and can be purchased in Dandy's Store.
Appearance
Sprout is a strawberry that only wears a white scarf with pink stripes wrapped around his neck that also drapes over his back. He is usually depicted as having five mint green, simple leaves, three of which rest atop their head while the other two cover his forehead like bangs, although his 3D model adds one more leaf on his bangs. He has dark, red blush with three black freckles on each cheek. His limbs are a vivid shade of light red.

Strategies
Sprout is a great Supporter and a superb Toon for many types of Runs. His Mobility is above average: with a Movement Speed stat of 4 ★ and 5 ★ Stamina, the highest in the game, Sprout makes for a very capable distractor. The only real downside to playing Sprout is his lack of extraction proficiency (2 ★ for both Extraction Speed and Skill Check), but this can be bolstered with Trinkets.
Since Distraction is not Sprout's only Role, if you have other Distractors in your Lobby, such as Pebble or Goob, it's suggested to allow them to fill that Role. While Distracting is a great use of Sprout's talents, collecting Tapes is extremely beneficial for your party and should be prioritized when opportune. This makes Sprout better-applied as a back-up Distractor than main one despite his excellent stats.
The reason Sprout's Support potential eclipses his use as a Distraction is his Active Ability, Baked Sweets. It allows Sprout to Heal any other hurt Toon in range for 1 Heart at the cost of 100 Tapes. This, obviously, can be a lifesaver for your teammates. Since Tapes can be hard to come by, it's suggested to prioritize Healing Distractors, Healers, and those on one Heart- otherwise, save at least 200 for emergencies unless the Floor is particularly dangerous and you're concerned for your teammates. It is not recommended to have multiple Sprouts in one Lobby, as the Ability's cost increases by 50 Tapes per Sprout in your party. Additionally, there is a global healing cooldown that can interfere with other Sprouts.
Do note that his Ability is not the most efficient method of Healing. Health Kits can Heal Sprout for the same price or less, depending on how many are in your team, and Bandages cost half the amount. Due to Sprout's value, try to save tapes in case a Bandage appears in Dandy's Elevator Shop, since if one does, your teammates should also have a chance to buy it, making the loss of Tapes less risky. As Sprout cannot Heal himself without heals or Cosmo present (more on that below), it's understandable to pursue any Healing he can get.
Sprout works well with Cosmo, as the latter's higher Stealth + shorter cooldown can allow him to deliver Hearts more easily to those in peril. Sprout can 'reimburse' Cosmo for any Hearts lost, and Cosmo can in turn give Hearts to Sprout, making their teamwork very effective. It's not advised to use Sprout if another Sprout is present or if Teagan is in the party- both may cause resource strain.
Sprout's Passive Ability, Overprotective, shows you how many Hearts they're at and where each of your teammates are. This is great for locating injured Toons and determining which of them need healing the most. However, it can be used for more than tracking Hearts!
- Optimizing routes. While Distracting, it can be used to change your route on a dime without running as much risk of running into teammates. It will also let you know if any damaged teammates are drawing near so you can initiate emergency maneuvers ahead of time. This can help you roam and collect tapes while Distracting (though caution should still be taken).
- Tracking Movement for clues. Noticing if a certain heart keeps running in circles or is stagnating in a specific location can clue you in that that Toon is either kiting a Twisted in the former's case or could be working on a Machine for the latter. If nobody is Distracting and you notice a teammate is kiting for a while, it could be a good idea to run over and relieve them. This can also help you identify those who are AFK.
- Seeing how many people are at the Elevator. Sprout excels at finishing the last Machine even at a distance due to this trait and his superior Movement. It only takes a quick glance to see if most Toons have made it, which has the potential to save you from popping the Machine too early and hurting your teammates. If you notice Hearts that are very far from the Elevator, ensure they're okay before initiating Panic Mode.
- Monitoring individuals. Since a different graphic is used when at full Hearts, two Hearts (for Non-Main Character), and one Heart, respectively, if only one of your teammates is at a certain Heart level it's possible to track them specifically. The best use cases for this tactic are when Shrimpo is in your party or your party is very small, but despite being a niche tool, any advantage can be helpful.
- Reporting danger. If a teammate dies or is critically injured, a keen-eyed Sprout might be the first to realize who and where it was. Using clues from tracking Movement and individual monitoring, it can easily become evident if a Distractor dies or switches locations. This information can be crucial (and is not always reported), so do your best to keep your team updated. Letting any Cosmos know about important changes can save your teammates even if your own Ability/Stamina is recharging.
As stated before, Sprout should mainly focus on finding/gaining Tapes to achieve multiple heals in a Run, which can be mainly done by:
- Scavenging for + using Items on the ground (preferably Common/Uncommon Items)
- Recommended Items to use to grind Tapes include Stealth Candies, Gumballs, and Skill Check Candies/Jumper Cables (the Machine completion provides further extra Tapes). However, during Panic Mode, it's safe to use any Items your teammates have left behind for Tapes.
- Encountering Twisteds
- Completing Machines
- Using Penny Pincher/Spare Change Cards
- While not immediately obvious, Blind Grab/Lost and Found and Avaricious/Covetous Cards are also slightly more advantageous for Sprout than usual.
Here below are some Trinket combinations that Sprout can use:
- Dog Plush/Vee's Remote
- A commonly used Trinket set for long or risky Runs, it combines Distracting and Extraction to help with Sprout fulfill both of his Roles regardless of which is prioritized. The +10% Walk Speed from Dog Plush is very helpful for Distracting Twisteds whenever other Distractors are unavailable. Vee's Remote can be used for getting a quick near-guaranteed 10 Tapes per floor and completing risky Machines out in the open.
- Dog Plush/Speedy Shoes
- If you are planning to mainly Distract, this would be a good Trinket set to use. The +10% and +5% Walk Speed from both Trinkets will allow for Distracting Twisteds well with less risk of getting hit. It'll allow you to outwalk most Common/Uncommon Twisteds, like Twisted Poppy or Twisted Boxten with a little wiggle room. With the big Stamina pool that you have and the +5% Run Speed from the Speedy Shoes, it'll also be easier to Distract Main Character/Faster Twisteds.
- Magnifying Glass/Participation Award
- Since his Stats are already well-rounded in Movement Speed, focusing on Extraction for extra Tapes isn't the worst idea. The extra Skill Check completion boost you gain from Magnifying Glass and the extra Skill Check chance from the Participation Award will help a lot with boosting Sprout's low Extraction Speed. This only works well if the user is good at hitting smaller Skill Checks and is alert to counteract the increased risk. While not the best combination for Sprout with a full party, it could be considered if the user is doing a solo run.
- Fancy Purse/Any
- This can help you get a head start on Tapes, granting 1 extra Heal at the start of the round (if other Sprouts are not present in the Lobby) since Fancy Purse gives you 100 Tapes. You can combine this with any other trinket listed here, such as Dog Plush to boost Sprout's Movement Speed or Vee's Remote to add even more Tapes to your pool. This Trinket is best recommended for short regular runs or when the user is inexperienced with Sprout. It provides no long-term benefit and is easy to squander when playing in public Lobbies: Heals used during earlier Floors are more likely to be spent due to inexperienced players who are likelier to die or miss the elevator early on. It's still good to Heal those less experienced with the Game, but since this Trinket only provides one Heal, it might not be the best use of a slot if you intend to reach higher Floors.
- Crayon Set/Any
- If you plan to play in public Lobbies but want to focus on Heals, Crayon Set can give you Passive income as long as you have an open Inventory slot. This is better for longer Runs as you won't get the full benefit until at least Floor 5 or above. This is also for people who have a rather good grasp on when to Heal others.
