Rodger the Magnifying Glass, also known as Rodger, is one of the 32 playable Toons in Dandy's World, added on June 14th, 2024. He is available to be bought in Dandy's Store.

Appearance

Rodger is a brown magnifying glass with a single eye resting in the middle of his lens. His eye is perpetually squinted from above (perhaps in exhaustion, disdain, or focus). He has no visible mouth, but he is still able to speak. His handle has a light purple-ish blue band that goes around it. He wears a gray, almost-black tuxedo jacket with dark blue lapels and cuffs, as well as a white undershirt, and a frilly jabot that is the same color as the band around his handle. He also seems to have no noticeable pants at the bottom.

In his full icon, he carries a brown suitcase with him.

Personality

Rodger is a clever and logical Toon. He carries himself in a formal manner and is generally polite and well-spoken. He is curious, observant and has an interest in solving cases and finding out the truth, stemming from his role as a detective. This interest leads to him often interrogating and conducting interviews with the other Toons, resulting in him coming off as nosy or even pushy at times. Such cases can be seen in his interactions with Astro and Sprout, saying "It may be safer, but uncovering truths is more rewarding!" and "How about later? I could ask you after this!" even after being turned down.

Despite Rodger's pushiness and dedication to his work, he is by no means aloof, and is actually quite caring towards his peers. In his dialogues, Rodger frequently compliments the other Toons for their capabilities, inquires about their well-being, and in one instance, even offers advice for calming down to Boxten, and seems to be a confidant for Glisten. He has adopted some of Glisten's personality traits, according to one of his dialogues with Eggson.

Strategies

Rodger's main purpose lies in collecting Research (and to a lesser extent, Ichor). He makes a good training character as using him is most beneficial for new players: his low Movement Speed helps players learn to regulate Stamina and his extra Research gain is most beneficial to those that don't have much. The rest of this section should be considered with the fact that he is more aptly-applied with the inexperienced in mind.

Rodger's main stat, which is his Extraction Speed (4), is above average and will help with completing Machines faster. The only downside is his low Movement Speed, which means finding and using Speed Items will help with traversing around the Floor better (although you may wish to save them for emergencies).

Rodger's Detective Passive grants him double the Research percentages from collecting Research Capsules and encountering Twisteds. Normally, you would gain 1% from Research Capsules and 5% from encountering Twisteds, but with his Passive Ability, it's doubled to 2% and 10%. This makes Rodger useful for collecting Research much faster on a Twisted that isn't fully Researched yet. However, this effectively renders him ability-less (similarly to Boxten). For that reason, if you have no motivation to collect Research (either because you have all of it or don't want it), Rodger probably isn't the best Toon for the job. If you do want Research, no other Toon surpasses him.

Survival

• Pink Bow/Options
  • This Trinket enables Rodger to outrun all Twisteds but Twisted Pebble before Panic Mode (24.2 run speed). Here are some options to pair Pink Bow with. Speedy Shoes, to outrun Twisted Pebble before Panic Mode (25.4 run speed); Vanity Mirror, to outrun every Twisted during Panic Mode (31.4 run speed); Magnifying Glass, Vee's Remote or Wrench, to help with floor progression; etc.

Extraction

• Participation Award/ Magnifying Glass
  • This set speeds up machine completion by maximizing Skill Check extraction, but it's best used in the presence of a distractor.

Trivia

• Despite popular belief caused by a rumor, Rodger does not lower Main Character Twisted chances when in a round.
• Before v0.4.1 Rodger had a bug where picking up a Capsule as him would not give 2% if you hadn't encountered the Twisted before.
• You can look through before the glass in Rodger's head to see through Blackouts clearer like how you can with Gigi's plastic lid, as Roblox's rendering does not work very well with fog seen through transparent objects.
• Assuming you enter a chase with a Twisted and collect their two Research Capsules, it takes 8 encounters with a Twisted to get 100% Research on them.
  • Rodger collects 14% research each such encounter. So, technically it takes 7.2 encounters, but there is no way to naturally get a decimal amount of encounters.
• Rodger's eye and lens are layered on top of some effects (status boost, username, Ichor extraction liquid, etc.)
• Rodger's introduction card used to say that he was a spyglass but was later corrected to say that he is a magnifying glass.
• Rodger's name is likely either a reference to Roger Bacon, the inventor of the magnifying glass, or the saying "Roger that."
• Rodger's lack of a mouth does not prevent him from talking.
• Rodger's magnifying glass is not actually a circle, it is an octadecagon (an 18-sided shape)
• Rodger is considering a monocle to add to his look.
• Rodger seems to have a tense relationship with most of the Main Character Toons (one-sided from the latter), save for Shelly. This likely stems from their annoyance at his interest and constant attempts at interrogating them, due to their status and, possibly, their connections with Dandy.
• Despite popular belief, it has been confirmed to be Rodger is not Toodles' father, but he is seen as a father figure by Toodles, as confirmed by Qwelver in a QnA Art Stream.
• Qwelver confirmed in the New Year QnA Stream that both Vee and Rodger don't have mouths and don't need to eat, but they can eat the in-game food items for gameplay purposes.
• Rodger is one of the three Toons whose skin was designed by someone else other than the developers, with the others being Looey and Goob. In Rodger's case, it's his Ebony Detective skin.
