Research Capsules are a collectible found in-game, usually found quite easily. Research Capsules appear as a small tank of Ichor with a metal ring around the middle, as well as a red, round wheel similar to those of the Machines on one side. They will always appear full.
They can be found on any floor. Two capsules will spawn per Twisted on the floor and they grant 1% Research on the Twisted which the capsule belongs to, alongside two Ichor. The research is doubled if the player who collects it is using Rodger.(This does not always apply.)
Research Capsules are client-sided, meaning that even if you pick up the capsule, the capsule will still be there for other players. This makes it more convenient for players in the game to collect more research without having to fight for it.
Twisted Rodger disguises himself as a slightly altered Research Capsule. You can tell it's a fake if the capsule does not have video film in the middle of it, so keep an eye out for him when grabbing one of these. Only one fake capsule can spawn per floor and it will respawn in the same place after being picked up.
Since Research Capsules will only spawn for Twisteds that are on the floor, it is advisable to always pick real ones up, even if you have no need for research/Ichor. This is because you can use them to identify the threats on the level early on- they will indicate who they belong to. In addition, if you continuously pick them up, noticing one will indicate an area you've forgotten to explore and can facilitate finding items or objectives you've missed or keep you from getting turned around if you're unfamiliar with your surroundings.

This Capsule is metallic, with a red knob at one of the sides. As for the containment, it's partially filled with Ichor. In Rodger's design, he contains a Research Capsule, which is the same as what you would find on the floor, but with a black knob instead of a red one.

- Before the 7/12/24 update, capsules used to be server-sided, meaning the capsule would not be there for other players if someone picked it up.
- Real and fake capsules have a possibility of spawning on top of each other; check carefully.
- There will always be 2 research capsules for each twisted, even if that particular twisted spawns twice in one floor.
