Research

Research is a progression mechanic in Dandy's World. Collecting Research is a requirement for unlocking certain Toons and Trinkets.

Unlocking Research

There are two ways to obtain Research, those being:

Research Capsules: Two Research Capsules will spawn for each Twisted that is present on any given Floor. These give 1% of Research on the Twisted the Capsule belongs to and tell the player which.
- Capsules are client-sided, meaning that even if you pick up the Capsule, it will still be there for other Players. This makes it more convenient for Players in the game to collect more Research without having to fight for it.
- Twisted Rodger appears as a fake capsule that lacks the tapes in the middle. If picked up, he will attack and apply Confused III and Slow III to the player that opened the fake capsule. His capsule is not client-sided.
Encountering a Twisted: Encountering a Twisted gives you 5% Research on the Twisted. This method is limited to once per floor, meaning if you get chased by the same Twisted twice, you won't get any extra Research. The research is given at the same time as tapes, so if you're unsure if you've been given the research, listen for the sound of tapes being collected. Encounters can be equated to either being in chase or going into the detection range depending on the Twisted, so you do not need to take damage to gain the Research for any Twisted. Other than the following, all Twisteds must detect you to give an encounter, so while they are chasing someone else, if your Stealth is higher than their victim they will not detect you.
- Twisted Razzle & Dazzle and Twisted Rodger both must be awake and the user must be in their line of sight to obtain encounter research.
- Twisted Glisten and Twisted Connie are counted as encountered even if not in an aggressive state, but require being in their aggro radius and not just sight line. If Twisted Glisten is in his aggressive state, Stealth mechanics apply.
- Twisted Blot is the only twisted to not give research by going near him. Instead, you need to go near the hands Twisted Blot summons to get the research.

Rodger gains double the amount of Research, so Research Capsules give 2%, and encounters give 10%. Apart from Rodger, there are no other ways of modifying the amount of Research gained.

For the most Research per Floor, it is recommended to play as Rodger, get both Capsules for the Twisted you want to research, then encounter the Twisted. If done correctly, you should get 14% Research every time the Twisted spawns on a floor. This allows you to complete a Twisted's research in 7 encounters as Rodger plus 1 as anyone, assuming you have no prior research. If playing as anyone else, 100% research takes 14 full ventures plus two capsules/one encounter.

Twisteds Menu

You can view your Research progress by looking in the Twisteds Menu. Clicking on a Twisted's icon will open up the sidebar, featuring a blurb describing the Twisted (and sometimes their special traits) and the percentage of Research you currently have on them.

Obtaining a certain amount of Research on a particular Twisted will unlock the following:

If you have 0% research on a Twisted, the Twisted's icon will only be a silhouette, and the description will read, "Encounter this twisted to begin research!".
- Holiday Twisteds will not appear as silhouettes early.
Upon collecting at least 1% research on a Twisted, the silhouette will be replaced by a cropped render. The sidebar will display a full render of the Twisted, in addition to its name and rarity. The blurb will tell you to obtain 50% research to unlock the description of the Twisted.
Upon collecting 50% research, you unlock the Twisted's description, which provides an explanation on the Twisted and often its abilities.
Upon collecting 100% research, you unlock a Trinket at no cost. These Trinkets are generally more powerful than the ones found in Dandy's Store.

Twisted Boxten Common	One of the most common Twisteds you'll encounter. Overcome by Ichor, this Twisted has the innate urge to chase others down. Thankfully, it appears that this Twisted doesn't have any abilities to aid him.	Blue Bandana Increases your Extraction Speed by 7.5%, but decreases Skill Check chance by 5%.
Twisted Cosmo Common	One of the most common Twisteds you'll encounter. Being overcome by Ichor and separated from his best friend has driven this Twisted to chase Toons down. It appears this Twisted lacks any noteworthy abilities, however.	Sweet Charm Decreases Active Ability Cooldown by 8%. Has no effect on Toons without an Active Ability.
Twisted Looey Common	While this Twisted is more common than others, Looey is still a dangerous foe. Overcome with ichor his physical changes have provided him a higher point of view compared to other common Twisteds, able to see further and retain attention within chase for longer periods of time.	Clown Horn Increases Walk and Run speed by 10% on odd-numbered floors.
Twisted Poppy Common	One of the most common Twisteds you'll encounter. Overcome by Ichor, this Twisted has the innate urge to chase others down. Thankfully, it appears that this Twisted doesn't have any abilities to aid her.	Pink Bow Increases Run Speed by 7.5%.
Twisted Shrimpo Common	While this Twisted is more common than others, Shrimpo is not to be messed with. Overcome by Ichor, this Twisted's bullying has become deadly. He may be slower than the average Twisted, but he has trained eyesight for Toons to bully. Don't get caught!	Brick Lowers both Walk and Run Speed by 10%. ‘It's a brick, what did you expect?’
Twisted Tisha Common	This commonly seen Twisted is most often spotted moving from place to place spending a considerably long time cleaning the floor. Interrupting her work would not be wise!	Feather Duster Restores 20 Stamina when picking up an Item. (Does not include Capsules and Tapes).
Twisted Yatta Common	While this Twisted is more common than others, Yatta is dangerous when running on her tails. Overcome with Ichor, her tails provide her with a higher run speed compared to other common Twisteds.	Party Popper When starting to work on a machine, Twisteds in the initial nearby radius are highlighted for 5 seconds.
Twisted Brightney Uncommon	A more uncommon Twisted, Brightney uses her knowledge and cunning to tamper with the lighting system, increasing the chance of a Blackout occuring on the Floor she resides in. Be sure to come prepared if this happens!	Spare Bulb Increases Blackout light radius by 25%. Also increases light radius for light-producing Toons.
Twisted Connie Uncommon	A more uncommon Twisted, Connie prefers to spend her time alone focused on possessing Ichor Machines. This activity fills her sense of purpose within Gardenview. When roaming she is harmless, though if disturbed while busy possessing a machine she becomes aggressive and will attack, remember she can't possess a machine forever.	Ghost Snakes In A Can Reduces an Active Ability's Cooldown by 5 Seconds. Has no effect on Toons without an Active Ability.
Twisted Finn Uncommon	This Twisted is filled to the brim with Ichor and uncontrolled vigor. Finn makes up for his lack of mobility by dousing Toons who have recently completed Machines in Ichor, greatly slowing their movement. Check your surroundings before completing Machines!	Fishing Rod Start with 3 random items from the Common to Rare tiers. Dandy's Shopexclusive items not included.
Twisted Razzle & Dazzle Uncommon	Be sure to tread lightly around this Twisted, or you will regret it. This Twisted will wake up and attack Toons that sprint past. If left undisturbed, they will fall back asleep. Walk slow and cautiously around them.	Ribbon Spool Gain 10% more Walk and Run Speed on even-numbered floors.
Twisted Rodger Uncommon	This deceptive Twisted lures unsuspecting Toons with the promise of knowledge. When the opportunity strikes, this Twisted rises from the ground and attacks any Toon who ventures too close. Be sure to have a keen and careful eye!	Magnifying Glass Adds slightly more completion when performing a successful Skill Check, but decreases Skill Check size by 33%. (Similarity: Participation Award)
Twisted Teagan Uncommon	A more uncommon Twisted, Teagan has let her greed take over. This Twisted will steal a considerable amount of a Toon's Tapes when she attacks them. Be sure to spend your Tapes while you have them!	Fancy Purse Start with 100 extra Tapes. (Similarity: Coin Purse)
Twisted Toodles Uncommon	Do not let this Twisted's size fool you. Toodles is a volatile Twisted that chases Toons with her high speed. Thankfully, this Twisted's attention span is rather low, so if you can get out of sight you should be safe from her.	Dog Plush Increases your walkspeed percentage by 10%. (Similarity: Pink Bow)
Twisted Flutter Rare	This Twisted is as dangerous as it is agile, constantly on the move with nimble speed and never stopping to rest. Flutter will quickly patrol the room for any easy targets, so be vigilant and hide when she's near.	Diary Increases Stealth by 25%.
Twisted Blot Rare	This silent Twisted conserves its energy by staying in one place. When his arms vanish underground, colossal hands emerge elsewhere, striking any Toon who dares approach.	Mime Makeup Twisteds will no longer be alerted if a Skill Check is failed.
Twisted Gigi Rare	If you have your hands full with items, this Twisted is your worst nightmare. Gigi has the ability to reach out and snatch items from afar. Don't let her steal your healing items!	Lucky Coin Boosts a random Stat by 12% once every Floor, rerolls at the start of each Floor.
Twisted Glisten Rare	This Twisted has had his sturdy ego completely shattered, and is on the verge of being overcome by Ichor. His fear and loneliness should be treated by being by his side. It is not advised to leave him to succumb to his affliction.	Vanity Mirror Increases Run Speed by 30% during Panic Mode
Twisted Goob Rare	Underestimating this Twisted's capabilities will be fatal. This Twisted is quite dangerous, due to his ability to outstretch his arms and snatch up Toons. If you spot this Twisted, get out of sight as soon as possible!	Friendship Bracelet Gain 5 max Stamina for every alive Toon in the round. Maxes at 40 Stamina.
Twisted Scraps Rare	This Twisted is similar to her brother Goob in terms of abilities. She possesses a snake-like tail that she can outstretch and attack Toons from a great distance. Be sure to get out of sight when you see her!	Crayon Set Grants a random item from the Uncommon Tier every new Floor (if user's Inventory has a slot open). Dandy's Shop exclusive items are included.
Twisted Astro Main Character	One of the Main Characters of Dandy's World. Overwhelmed by guilt and despair, this Twisted puts his grief on others. If you fail a Skill Check while on a machine and hide from him, Astro will steal completion from that Machine. Skill Check carefully!	Night Cap (old trinket; unobtainable) Star Pillow (new trinket) Night Cap - Increases Stamina Regeneration by 40% while extracting from a Machine. Star Pillow - Increases Stamina Regeneration by 100% while extracting from a Machine.
Twisted Pebble Main Character	One of the Main Characters of Dandy's World. This ferocious Twisted will stop at nothing to defend his owner and protect his territory. Highly dangerous due to his immense speed and powerful eyesight.	Bone Increases both Walk and Run Speed by 25% when picking up an Item for 4 seconds. Effect can stack. (Does not include Capsules and Tapes)
Twisted Shelly Main Character	One of the Main Characters of Dandy's World. The blatant ignorance of her existence by everyone around her has enraged her. Her presence makes every Toon extract slower, and she uses her form to her advantage in terms of speed.	Participation Award Increases Skill Check chance by 25%, but decreases Skill Check size by 10% (Similarity: Magnifying Glass)
Twisted Sprout Main Character	One of the Main Characters of Dandy's World. This Twisted makes up for his slower speed by summoning deadly tendrils from the ground that strike at nearby Toons. Do not let this lonely Twisted trap you with him!	Savory Charm Saves the user from a fatal attack, granting them invincibility for 10 seconds. Can only activate once. Does not save the user from Lethal attacks (Twisted Dandy attacks).
Twisted Vee Main Character	One of the Main Characters of Dandy's World. This Twisted has eyes everywhere, messing up Machines would not be advised. She will also attempt to distract Toons with worthless ads and pop-ups while she goes for the kill.	Vee's Remote Instantly completes the first Machine you extract from on any Floor, but only if the number of Machines completed is below 50%. Limit of 1 activation per Floor.
Twisted Dandy Lethal	The star of the show. The one who runs the Ichor operation. It's all his fault.	Dandy Plush Grants the user a 50% discount on all Dandy's Shop Items.

Twisted Bobette Main Character	Christmas	One of the Holiday Main Characters of Dandy's World. Created to craft toys for everyone has left her envious. If not preoccupied she will break into full sprint at the sound of picking up an item in hopes of catching whoever was being greedy. Be mindful, her speeds are hard to escape.	Toy Kit Refreshes active ability cooldown while in the elevator.
Twisted Coal Rare		This Twisted is not difficult to deal with in most scenarios, though within the event of a blackout she will be a dangerous encounter that may lead to one's early demise. With heightened speed, it's best to steer clear of her in the dark.	Coal Decreases Stealth by 10% and Walk and Run speed by 20%.
Twisted Ginger Uncommon		This Twisted may be slow, but don't let your guard down too quickly! She is relentless in tracking her targets down with a notable persistence. Make sure you stay of of sight long enough to lose her interest!	Peppermint Icing Grants 30 stamina after using any active ability.
Twisted Rudie Common		A swift and agile Twisted, Rudie's quick movements and enhanced senses make it a formidable hunter. While not as powerful as some other Twisteds, its ability to maintain chase for longer periods makes it particularly dangerous in extended encounters.	Festive Lights Highlights Ornaments in your vicinity every 10 seconds during matches, making them easier to spot during events.
Twisted Bassie Main Character	Easter	One of the Holiday Main Characters of Dandy's World. The fear of never living up to other's expectations has caused her to act out in desperation. When occupying a floor, this Twisted grows Ichor-drenched flowers that slow those too close to them, allowing her or fellow Twisteds a better chance to catch their target.	Whispering Flower Highlights all items on the map during Panic Mode for the user with the trinket equipped.
Twisted Cocoa Rare		Don't underestimate this Twisted. While often patrolling a floor at a slower pace, once she has her sight on someone, she will quickly speed up by hopping towards her target. Thankfully, her attention can drop almost as quickly.	Glazed Fondant Bag Candy items that provide a boost gain 4 seconds to their duration while this Trinket is equipped (BonBon included).
Twisted Flyte Uncommon		This Twisted is as dangerous as it is agile, similar to Twisted Flutter. This Twisted uses wings to quickly patrol a floor, never stopping to rest, though he cannot match the exact speeds of Twisted Flutter.	Scrapbook Reduce your Stealth by 5%.
Twisted Eggson Common		Twisted Eggson may look soft and friendly, but his twisted form is relentless in pursuit of toons who draw his attention.	Egg Radar Highlights Baskets in your vicinity every 10 seconds during matches, making them easier to spot during events.

Some Toons require Research on Twisteds to be unlocked.

Every Main Character Toon requires 100% research on their Twisted counterpart to unlock them. It is extremely unlikely that there will be an exception to this rule.
Scraps requires 50% research on Twisted Goob to be unlocked.
- This makes her one of the three only toons that need research on a separate twisted than their twisted counterpart to unlock, the other being Rodger and Cocoa.
Flutter requires 100% research on Twisted Flutter.
- This is the first and only instance of a non-Main Toon requiring 100% Research on their Twisted counterpart, as of v0.9.1. This might change in the future.
Connie, Flyte, Gigi, Ginger, Glisten, and Yatta all require 50% Research on their respective Twisted counterparts.
Rodger requires 50% Research on any Twisted.
- This is the first time a Research requirement isn't specific to one single Twisted, the second being Cocoa.
- This is because Rodger is meant for obtaining research, so having some to start with would typically be expected.
Cocoa requires 100% Research on 5 different Twisteds.
The minimum amount of encounters for 100% research on a specific Twisted is 15 times (8 times if using Rodger).

Trivia

Twisted Dandy is the only Twisted to have their description not feature any clear advice.
Coincidently, most of the Normal Toons that require research on their Twisted counterparts are classified as Rare. Connie, Flyte, Ginger, and Yatta are the only exceptions of this, as the first three are both classified as Uncommon, and Yatta is classified as Common, despite her requirements following the format of a Rare.
Twisted Rodger is the only Twisted who is in a research capsule.
Twisted Blot is the only Twisted to not give research by going near him. Instead, you should go near his hands to get the research.
