Main Characters

Main Characters are a type of Toon in Dandy's World. Main Characters are signified by a rainbow border around their icon in Dandy's Store in the lobby and in the Toon selection menu, compared to the usual gray that's displayed for other Toons. Event Main Character Toons are exceptions to this, having a half-rainbow, half-event colored border instead. Though some people may not notice Bobette's difference easily (red and green), Bassie's Easter half icon is lighter (pastel pink, blue and yellow) and visible along with Gourdy's (orange and purple). There are currently 8 playable Main Characters in the game, being Astro, Bassie, Bobette, Gourdy, Pebble, Shelly, Sprout, and Vee. Dandy is a lead character while Dyle is an assistant, however, they are unable to be played through normal means.

These Toons are often viewed as a symbol of status or experience with the game. The more Main Character Toons a player has, the more skilled they are viewed as. This is because Main Characters are generally harder to acquire. To purchase Main Characters from Dandy's Store, you need 100% Research on the Toon's Twisted counterpart, some Ichor (more than a normal Toon's price), and full Mastery on another Toon (this Toon varies for all Main Characters). Event Main Characters also cost more of their Event Currency than other Event Toons (specifically 3000).

An interesting fact about these characters is that they are most viewed, used, and frequently played by the majority of people. This is due to their popularity, updates/being event limited, fan-arts, and also their playstyle being amazing supports and having special changes to Hearts, Abilities, etc.

Trivia

• The currently known requirements for a Toon to be a Main Character are:
  • Having 2 ;
  • Having 2 Abilities, one Active and one Passive;
    • Dandy and Dyle don't follow this, only having a Passive ability.
    • This is probably why despite the function similarities, Bassie's Ability is not a Toggle.
      • However, she technically used to have it labelled as a Passive Ability, probably making the above claim false.
  • Having Stat spread of 16 compared to the 15 Stars other Toons have;
  • Being a major character in the Dandy's World Show;
  • Having a unique dialogue and Machine completion sound;
  • Having (at least) one 5 Star Stat;
    • Blot, Connie, Gigi, Glisten, Scraps, Yatta and Soulvester are not Main Characters, despite having 5 Stars in one of their Stats.
  • Having three considerably difficult requirements: a high Ichor cost, 100% research on their Twisted form, and a miscellaneous requirement, usually being 100% Mastery on another Common/Uncommon Toon;
    • Astro and the Event Main Characters are currently the only Main Characters whose third requirement is not 100% mastery on another Toon. Instead, Astro's third requirement is for the player to encounter Twisted Dandy at least once, whilst the Event Main Characters require the player to spend a large amount (3000) of the Event Currency ( Ornaments, Baskets, Pumpkins) on top of Ichor.
    • The Event Main Characters additionally don't cost as much Ichor compared to the other Main Characters, only costing 2500 Ichor.
  • Being the most featured in merchandise and episodes in the Dandy's World Show, hence the name.
• Main Characters are the most common characters to see on Posters around floors. All posters (except character information posters) feature at least one Main Character.
  • Cooking Chaos is the only episode poster to not follow this rule.
• None of the Main Characters have introduction cards as of now.
  • This may be intentional, considering lore-wise, they would likely be well known due to their "Main Character" status.
• All playable Main Characters have a unique talking sound effect that's also present in their active ability (excluding Bassie).
  • Astro speaks with a cosmic whoosh effect.
  • Bassie speaks with a twinkle sound effect.
  • Bobette speaks with a jingle bell sound effect.
    • Bobette originally didn't have unique dialogue sound. This is because there was a mistake where the audio did not play in-game. This was fixed in the 0.7.1 update.
  • Dandy and Dyle are exempt from this and only features a normal Toon talking sound effect.
  • Gourdy speaks with a sound that sounds like a soft bounce/pop.
  • Pebble speaks in barks.
  • Sprout speaks with an effect akin to a bubble's pop.
  • Shelly speaks with a brick effect.
  • Vee speaks with a rising square pulse.
• The Main Character Toons are related to the Toons whose mastery you need to purchase the Main Character.
  • Shelly and Tisha are good friends, proven by their interactions and certain storyboards, and boost two stats powerfully.
  • Vee believes Brightney is her best contestant (as shown in their interactions with each other) and views her better than the rest. Both of their Active Abilities both highlight the location of Twisteds. They also lack Stealth and have a larger light radius than other Toons.
  • Toodles likes dogs, which is what Pebble is and explains how and why she has her own Dog Plush. Both are monochrome in color and their Twisteds are known for being fast.
  • Sprout and Cosmo have been emphasized as best friends many times, both of their active abilities are healing other Toons, and have matching skins and trinkets, the pendants fusing together to make a Dandy-like flower.
• Main Characters have a pattern where they always release alongside at least 1 Common, 1 Uncommon, and 1 Rare Toon.
• Holiday Main Characters require reaching Floor 20 in their Mastery (with the exception of Gourdy). This could be because their Twisted counterparts are guaranteed to spawn every 20 Floors.
• Bassie was the first Main Character (and Toon in general) to have 2 Passive Abilities.
  • This was later fixed. As of now, she has both a Passive and Active Ability (although her Active Ability has no cooldown).
• Bobette was the first Main Character and Toon with two 5 Star stats (Skill Check and Stamina).
  • This was later changed to 4 Star Skill Check, redistributing that other Star to Movement Speed.
  • Gourdy is the second Toon to achieve this, having 5 Stars in his Skill Check and Extraction Speed stats.
    • He also shares these extraction stats with Soulvester.
• Dandy and Dyle are the only Main Character Toons that are not playable to normal players.
  • Dandy and Dyle alongside Bassie, Bobette, and Gourdy are the only Toons that are categorized in two different sections (with Dandy and Dyle being a Main Character and Lethal, Bassie being an Easter and Main Character, Bobette being a Christmas and Main Character, and Gourdy being an Halloween and Main Character).
  • They are also the only Main Character Toons and Toon in general to have 5 in all of their stats.
    • This makes a total of 25 Stars in all of Dandy and Dyle's stats.
  • Although they can't be played by normal players, Dandy and Dyle are playable in Roleplay.
  • Despite popular belief, Dandy is actually a Main Character since he (along with the other mains) has a Toon Handler, a plush version of himself (seen in the Gift Shop) and is one of the six Main Characters in the show. Currently, Dyle does not have a Toon Handler shown, it is unknown if he has one or not.

    • He is the second Lethal to have their last name revealed in-game.

    • He is the first and only Event Main Character Toon to not have his full name revealed in a livestream.
    • Gourdy's parents also likely share this last name due to being relatives, though they are not playable.

    • Vee and Dyle have the shortest full names, being 11 characters long.
      • Counting spaces, Dyle has the shortest with 12 while Vee has 13.
• The Main Characters also have their own Toon handlers.
  • It is unknown if the Holiday Main Characters have Toon Handlers.
• Astro and Vee (and sometimes Shelly) share many similarities:
  • Both are currently the only Main light-producing Toons in-game.
  • Both have objects present in their body when not activating their Active Ability.
    • Astro has 2 differently sized stars in his body, whereas Vee has her microphone in her head as well, with the cord going down her torso.
    • However, Vee can be seen holding her microphone when idle, so that's an exception.
    • Pebble originally had a 3D modeled tongue into him, which can neither be seen out of his body when idle, nor when activating his Ability. The aforementioned model has been removed since the 0.6.4 update. This model would have been used for animations, however.
    • Despite Shelly displaying sparks out of her head when activating her Active Ability, they are not present in her model.
  • Their Twisted counterparts are the only Main Twisteds to inflict a debuff whilst chasing Toons.
    • Twisted Astro inflicts the Tired Ⅲ debuff whereas Twisted Vee inflicts the Slow Ⅱ one.
    • However Twisted Shelly inflicts Confused Ⅰ throughout Floors where she appears.
  • Both are supporters, alongside Shelly and the Holiday Main Characters.
    • Astro fully refills nearby Toons' Stamina whereas Vee can find machines for the other Toons as well as highlighting Twisteds for them, especially during blackouts, Shelly boosts a Toon's extraction speed by 75%. Bobette also refills Stamina like Astro, but increases its regeneration by 50%, and provides a 25% speed boost, and Bassie shares items to other Toons. Finally, Gourdy can boost nearby Toons with a random stat and grant them extra speed at the start and ends of the Floor to assist them in traversal.
    • Sprout can also count as support, being able to heal other Toons, but he is rather defined as a "healer" as its own role.
    • Pebble could also count considering his Ability to take aggro off of others with his Active, however, he is better described as a survivalist or distractor.
  • Both (and Shelly) have night or space related Skins.
    • Astro is already space and night related besides his Starry Night Skin, whereas Vee has the Cosmic Signal Skin, which is related to the two previously mentioned ones. Shelly has the Dino Snore Skin, which is mainly based on a Dinosaur Pajama, which is mainly used for sleeping and so, related with night and eventually Astro.
  • Their Twisted counterparts are tied of having the highest hearing radius, being of 9999 units when failing a skill check as a Toon, using an Air Horn or activating Pebble's Active Ability, alongside Twisted Dandy, also having the same units.
  • Both (and Shelly and Sprout) have a "Staff Only Area" poster.
  • Both (and Shelly and Sprout) have their own rooms/maps.
    • The Holiday maps could possibly be counted as Main themed maps too, but they are more generally themed around the actual holiday rather than the respective Main of the Event, though there are things such as plushies and/or posters featuring the Main found in the Holiday maps.
• Pebble and Vee are the only Main Characters that never appeared in the game icon, and Vee is the only Main that hasn't appeared in any of the game's thumbnails.
  • Pebble and Vee could have been in the icon when they got optimized, but since they got optimized when Yatta and Blot released, respectively, they were featured in the icon instead.
    • Pebble also probably would have appeared too short if he was to appear in the icon, unless Dandy was holding him.
• Gourdy is the first and currently only Main Character Toon to be a child, and the first Event Main to be male.
