Flutter the Butterfly, also known as Flutter, is one of the 33 playable Toons in Dandy's World. She was introduced on July 12th, 2024, alongside Shelly, Teagan, and Tisha. She is available to be bought in Dandy's Store.

Appearance

Flutter is a butterfly with a pink, heart-shaped head and pink legs, but she flies predominantly despite having those legs. She has two thin black antennae topped with inverted, purple hearts. She has cyan eyeshadow and two eyelashes per eye. She wears a simple, light purple dress and has dark purple fluff going around her neck, which is the same colour as her antennae's hearts. Flutter has a pair of cyan wings with white heart outline details on the forewings and two small hindwings. She is armless and has no visible mouth.

Personality

Flutter is a mute Toon, as it is shown that she cannot speak verbally. Despite her setbacks, a lot of Toons also seem to understand her, as in their interactions, since they react accordingly to the other dialogue Flutter has said. She is kind, a good friend towards the other Toons, caring, tries to be helpful, and cheerful (as described on her UGC Item). Her interactions with Cosmo and Blot show that she's more helpful than she comes across as initially, but is usually not credited for it. Her dynamic with her older brother Flyte is that of stereotypical siblinghood, in which his constant worrying for her annoys her, and despite their occasional playful teasing, they care for and miss each other very much. She also seems to overwork her herself as seen in interactions with Astro, Connie, and Flyte.

Mastery Strategies

• For the first task, you can use a cooldown Trinket such as Ghost Snakes In A Can or Sweet Charm to reduce her ability's cooldown.
• For the second task, focus on surviving the floors or just normally playing the game.
• For the third task, try to focus on moving around in runs, or entering a private run with Trinkets such as Dog Plush, Clown Horn, and Ribbon Spool with the goal of only moving and getting the task done.
• For the fourth task, focus on picking up items as much as you can in runs.
• For the fifth task, try to complete as many Floors as you can in runs, try to go as far as you can.
• For the sixth task, focus on using as much Items as you can in runs.

Strategies

Flutter is a good Toon for moving around. Combined, her speed stat (4 stars) and ability (+50 speed units in both walk speed and run speed) give her great mobility. Without speed Trinkets, her speed during the dash is 67.5 walk speed and 77.5 run speed, which means that you should try to use Floaty Dash while running unless you want to conserve your stamina or want to regenerate it while you are distracting), to make the most of it. Flutter's most conventional role in a team would be distracting Twisteds. Her Movement Speed and Stamina makes it far easier for her than most others, though in turn, she can't extract as well as most other Toons and has Stealth issues. You can also use her active ability to dash away from faster Twisteds, such as Twisted Pebble, Twisted Glisten (enraged), and Twisted Shelly.

On its own, this would make her somewhat comparable to Goob, but where Flutter really shines is with her active ability. Her ability can be used to get out of most complex situations, to get around a corner to ensure a Twisted loses you, or at low Stamina to get to a place to regen. It can be compared to a much shorter Eject Button, which is a major advantage for a Toon who (if played as a distractor) will be in chases often. It helps her get out of dead ends much easier than most other Toons or behind cover in the cases of Twisted Razzle & Dazzle, Goob, Scraps, and Rodger. She can make small and nimble plays that other Toons simply aren't capable of, or cover ground quickly when she spots a teammate being chased while having enough momentum to reduce the risk of a blind charge. Her limiting factor compared to Goob is her high stealth (3 stars). This can be used to your advantage for Twisted trade-offs (if backup distracting), managed for distraction through high-stealth teams, combined with Trinkets such as Scrapbook to find a niche as a last-second defender, or left as-is to embrace the survivalist role.

Please note that dashing does not grant you invincibility frames, so if you dash directly through a Twisted, there's a chance you will get hit and take damage. Sometimes it will not damage you and you will dash through normally, but it's very risky.

Flutter doesn't need any specific items to help her, but healing, speed boosts, and Stamina regeneration would be welcome.

Distraction

• Dog Plush/Options
  • This Trinket boosts the role of distractor for the holder. Here are some options to pair Dog Plush with (19.3 walk speed).
    • Speedy Shoes, to out-walk fast twisteds and support the ability to loop Twisted Pebble (20.2 walk speed);
    • Clown Horn or Ribbon Spool, to outrun during Panic Mode all twisteds but Pebble when active (21.2 walk/30.3 run speed);
    • Vee's Remote or Magnifying Glass, to help with floor progression;
    • Ghost Snakes In A Can, to reduce Floaty Dash's cooldown (40s);
    • Scrapbook, to take aggro more easily; etc.

Extraction

  • Vee's Remote - This set allows the user to take care of any machine instantly and extract more efficiently.
  • Participation Award - This set speeds up machine completion by maximizing Skill Check extraction. However, it leaves you with a near 1 star Window Size.

Trivia

• Flutter's designation could be R-001 or R-003 since Glisten's, Goob's and Scraps' are R-002, R-004 and R-005, with the R most likely standing for Rare.
• Flutter has three UGC Items, that being Flutter's Antennae, Flutter's Head, and Flutter's Wings (the wings have been off sale, but are now available to be purchased).
• Her name, Flutter, means to fly lightly and unsteadily by flapping one's wings exactly as such, which can be used to describe how butterflies move around. Her brother Flyte's name is pronounced as "flight". A group of butterflies can collectively be known as a flutter or a flight.
• Currently, Flutter is the only non-main Toon to have 100% Research on her Twisted counterpart as a requirement for buying her.
• In her early concept art, Flutter used to have a proboscis. It is unknown if Flutter was always meant to have a speed boost as her ability, but Twisted Flutter's proboscis was turned into a snare trap in her concept art. As Twisted mechanics usually relate back to the original Toon in some way, this likely suggests that originally, Flutter's ability would've pulled Toons to her, an ability that Goob has in the alpha release.
  • It might be possible she does still have a proboscis. This could be implied by her interaction with Teagan, with Flutter saying she'd want some tea. However, Flutter might have said something that caused Teagan to talk about a different thing. Additonally, the clover motifs from her concept art very likely carried over to Flyte's design.
• Flutter was originally going to be scrapped, but the staff liked her design so much that they brought her back. This very coincidentally is a fate similar to the Nintendo character Kirby. Not only are they pink in color, but they also were only created for fun and almost scrapped, but their respective creators made each character real due to how much they liked them.
• Flutter is one of the Toons that doesn't walk; she flies instead, but despite this, she can choose to walk if she wants. The other Toon who doesn't walk is Connie, although her deficiencies are more obvious due to her lack of legs.
• Flutter seems to be good friends with Gigi. Gigi knows what is in Flutter's Diary, since Gigi is the one who writes in her Diary.
• Flutter is one of the eight Toons to have a different extracting animation compared to other Toons. In this Toon's case, She uses her legs to kick the wheel due to her lacking arms completely. The other eight Toons being Astro, Coal, Cosmo, Goob, Pebble, Rodger, Shrimpo, and Toodles.
• Flutter is one of nine Toons to have one of their dialogues shown behind the scenes. The other eight Toons being Astro, Boxten, Connie, Cosmo, Gigi, Glisten, Shrimpo, and Vee.
• Based on one of her interactions with Connie, her favourite colour is most likely pink.
• Despite Flutter's design not having a mouth, Qwelver confirmed in the New Year QnA Stream Flutter does in fact have a mouth.
  • She probably doesn't know it's called a proboscis, a specialized long tube-shaped mouthpart used for sucking nectar from flowers, or she could be confirming Flutter does have a legitimate mouth that can't usually be seen. This can be seen in Flutter's early concept design, and proves that Flutter's lack of mouth is not her reasoning for being mute.
• Flutter and Coal have the same Statistics. This is one of the only times that this has happened, the other being all the starter Toons. She also shares her statistics with Flyte, swapping Extraction Speed and Stamina.
• Flutter, Rudie, and Flyte share the same ability sound.
• Flutter having an older brother named Flyte makes them the fourth set of Toons in-game to have a canonical biological relationship, the other three being Scraps and Goob (older sister, younger brother), Razzle & Dazzle (conjoined twin brothers) and Cosmo and Ginger (cousins).
